The Throne Room of God
I’ve been encouraged by Daniel 7:13-14:
I saw in the night visions,
and behold, with the clouds of heaven
there came one like a son of man,
and he came to the Ancient of Days
and was presented before him.
And to him was given dominion
and glory and a kingdom,
that all peoples, nations, and languages
should serve him;
His dominion is an everlasting dominion,
which shall not pass away,
and his kingdom one
that shall not be destroyed.
Seeing the Risen Christ sit down at the Father’s right hand! I’ve always loved the story of the Ascension—Christ rising from their view, wrapped in the clouds obscuring their sight—but here we get to see Jesus sit down at God’s right hand from Heaven’s point of view.
I’ve been marveling that all the accounts in the Bible of the Throne Room of God match up. Ezekiel 1; Isaiah 6; Jacob’s Ladder; Revelation 4, with the elders and the Living Creatures. And the Transfiguration of Christ is a throne room of God moment. Standing with the elders, glorified in their presence. What would it be like to be with the disciples, or to see Jesus praying all those other times on the mountain?
If we believe we are already seated with Christ in the Heavenly places, that He has given us a nest near His altar, and that we live in God’s House Forever, we can see we are already in this throne room of God. We had a friend who went to be with Jesus at a young age. All she could say as she went into God’s Presence was “Throne Room of God, Throne Room of God!”
Hebrews tell us that because of Christ Jesus and His blood shed for me, I can approach the throne of grace boldly, as a loved child. In fact, Daniel, dearly loved, teaches us this trust. In the presidency of JFK, the president’s children routinely played in a cubby hole under the desk in the oval office as their dad worked. It was a cubby hole built by FDR to hide his leg braces from public view, but in the presidency of JFK it became a place of closeness. This image shines as an example of what it is like to be a beloved child, welcome into the Father’s place of business, where Christ mediates on our behalf.
The Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians that we are being transformed into His image from one degree of glory to the next, through Christ who is the Spirit. In Malachi 3 we learn that when we talk about Him, He listens and writes our names in His book. “This one and that one were born in her. Singers and dancers alike say, ‘All my springs are in Thee!’” These are precious and very great promises. Like Jacob, we say, “How awesome is this place!” I think this means we can just reach out and touch His robe, too. Maranatha, Come Lord Jesus! Heal us, we pray. Lord, Save us. In Your Name, Your all-worthy blood pleads for me, in Your Name, Amen.
The Throne Room of God
This is--God’s House.
Myriads on myriads of angels
in festal array;
4 living Gospels adoring
our Worthy Lamb
Who was slain
before the foundation
of the world
was set on its pillars.
24 elders dipping their robes,
casting their crowns,
bowing low.
Christ exalted,
raised high.
Sitting in judgement
above a crystal sea
of innumerable righteous
made perfect through
suffering and repenting,
transformed from one degree
of glory to the next
through Christ who
is the Spirit.
At the right hand of
The Ancient of Days
His all-worthy blood
pleads a better word;
perpetual wounds
that plead
--for me!
